African Lodge

The staff were pleasant and tried to help, but the rooms were horrible. We booked two separate rooms and found a broken toilet, broken shower, broken AC, no towels and a lot of dirt between them. We were moved to two new rooms. One was decent enough to sleep in, but the other was very dirty, had no towels or toilet paper, and had blood on the bedding. Do not stay!

The lodge has a nice swimming pool and a shared kitchen with the usual utensils. It’s in Universitas, in Bloemfontein, and works well for short overnight stays. I liked it, though it was a little too small for our family of five. Otherwise, excellent!

I’m going to live here for a year, and I’m comfortable. It’s a very beautiful place, and there’s a pool too. The main kitchen doesn’t really look like a kitchen, though, more like a storage room with a two-plate stove and a fridge.

The room setup and service were awful. There was no hot water, and the stained linen and dirty couch cushions made the place feel filthy. A kettle had been left on the couch, and there was no milk or water in the fridge. The shower was just a pipe on the wall, without a connection or showerhead. The curtains wouldn’t open and the blinds wouldn’t close for privacy, while both were in terrible condition. There was no window or air conditioning for ventilation, the rooms were divided by drywall, and the mattress was worn out. Hospitality was poor too. I’d rate this as one star at most, nowhere near four, and wouldn’t recommend the guesthouse.
