Olive Hill Country Lodge

We especially enjoyed how peaceful the lodge was. We could hear the quiet after the loud music at the wedding we attended, and the garden was lovely, with lots of white roses and other interesting plants. There are tables and chairs in the garden, plus veranda seating where you can take in the view and look at the stars at night. Parking is beside the lodge under netting. The Lodge is very close to a big wedding venue. Our spacious, clean room had comfortable beds, a table and chairs, and a kitchenette with a two plate stove, microwave and small fridge. There was enough cutlery and crockery, a TV and free wifi. The bathroom was spacious, with plenty of hot water for showers. Breakfast had various options, and there were sachets of coffee, tea and sugar, plus fresh milk. The manager was friendly and helpful, and you can ask him if you need anything. The cleaning team also checks in each morning to see if you need service. We had a lovely weekend and can really recommend this venue.

Don’t expect a warm welcome, the service was very unfriendly. We booked a room for my husband and me, but got one with two single beds. Bring your own milk too. You only get two drops, so you have to choose whether to put it in your coffee or eat your All Bran with it.

It was so quiet and peaceful here, and there’s a mall about 12 minutes away where you can get anything. The staff were kind and helpful with every request, and made sure we had what we needed and were happy throughout our stay. The rooms are self-catering, with basics for breakfast such as apples, cereal, tea, coffee and yoghurt, which was a lovely touch. Check-in was seamless, the lodge is secure, and there’s plenty of parking. Our room was tidy and cleaned daily. There’s backup power, so you don’t notice when loadshedding happens. The beds were clean and comfortable. It really should be a stopover for people travelling through the province.

OLIVE HILL is just what it promises to be, a handy place to rest your travel-weary bones. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms were nice. The rooms have exactly what you need for a one-night stopover. Derek, the manager and owner, was friendly when we arrived and very accommodating. Don’t expect a gourmet breakfast and you won’t be disappointed. It’s convenient food for travellers: yogurt, an apple, rusks, cereal and breakfast biscuits.
