African Kingdom Guest House

My wife and I were only there briefly since we travel a lot, but it was one of our best stays in Boksburg. Friendly staff, clean rooms and just a good experience. I’d recommend this guesthouse whether you’re staying a short or long time.

Good value for the price, with staff who were incredibly friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. You can braai in the garden area, which made the evenings relaxed and enjoyable. We were comfortable during our stay.

We’d planned to stay longer, but the bad service and the attitude we got from Faith and Precious changed that. We wasted money on groceries, too. There’s no air conditioning or heaters in the rooms, and the place closes at 22:30. They also play music loudly in the morning. When we arrived for our booking, we were told our room was wet because it had been painted, so they put us next door for one night. They should have told us sooner, but we had no choice. The next morning we went back and were allowed to share a room at check-in, but the rules had changed the following day. We asked to cook in the kitchen and were told it would cost an extra 360 on top of R650.

The ladies at reception were very cool and welcoming, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I loved the place, but being told the card machine wasn’t working and that we had to pay cash felt weird. Next door charges R250 for three hours, while they wanted R400 for four hours. There’s no fridge in the rooms either. I wish they had a standard price, so I wouldn’t feel like I was being taken for a ride with the pricing.
