A guesthouse with a stunning view, and a lovely place to experience if you enjoy the outdoors and being close to nature. It's also a convenient stopover when travelling from Cape Town to Oudtshoorn.

We only managed one night at Dewaenhuis, part of the Strooi Kooi collection, but we're already planning a longer return. Zelma was one of the best hosts I've had, and the cottage came with an impressively detailed booklet about the area. It's beautifully decorated, with a perfect kitchen. I could happily spend the day reading, baking bread in the pizza oven, or painting in the studio. There's so much to enjoy in this small town, and we regret missing some of the local Gems.
We loved staying here. Strooi Kooi is made for resting, with one inviting place to pause after another. The little strooi cottage is so well designed, and the stoep looks out over the Paardenberg and Gamkaskloof nature reserves. The huge, incredibly comfy bed is set up in the perfect spot for morning coffee in all of Calitzdorp. Zelma was wonderful and helpful without intruding at all. Such a perfect, intimate getaway.
We had a great time relaxing under the trees at the braai area, and enjoyed the outdoor shower. The setting has a lovely rustic but stylish feel.
We stayed in De Waenhuis, the cottage off the main house, and I barely wanted to leave. The rustic decor has a Provence inspired feel that I loved. There was a private stoep, fireplace and our own little pool with a beautiful view. I'm looking forward to coming back.
