The worst part of our stay was the host walking into our private space twice while we were showering. The suite layout meant the person in the shower could be seen from every angle. The first time, we screamed and asked him to leave, but he stayed in the garden. I had to come out half-dressed to tell him to go, and he then hid in a corner of our so-called private garden. We messaged him to warn him not to come in again, but he did it a second time the next day. I’m a woman, and having an older, larger man come in while I was showering made us feel unsafe, on edge and embarrassed. He saw my husband naked too because the suite is so open-plan. The owner showed no regret or acceptance and only made excuses for entering while we were showering. There were some good things: the main house, gardens and location were nice. But the suite garden looked nothing like the photo. It was messy and hot, and the hot tub was full of leaves and dirt. It hadn’t even been cleaned before it was filled, and then it sat stagnant with flies around for two days, despite our asking for it to be emptied. Other guests played loud, obnoxious music from an iPad, and there should be some noise rules. Typical of older men these days, thinking everyone needs to hear their music or phone noise. The whole experience was horrible.

Michael was a wonderfully attentive host, and the guesthouse itself is beautiful. We loved the gorgeous garden and pool, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the location was great. We had a perfect stay and couldn't recommend it more.

Breakfasts were amazing, served at different spots in the garden, and the flowers and shrubs were beautiful. The gardens are kept immaculately, and the huge pool was spotless. Michael was a delightful host who could sort out anything, and his local knowledge was invaluable. We’d stayed here before, but this time we chose the cottage for eight nights. I’m so glad we did. After eight days of total relaxation, we sadly left this morning. The cottage was huge, beautifully furnished, and had a very comfortable large bed. Everything worked, and the room was cleaned and replenished daily to the nth degree. His two ladies were happy to help with anything. We’ve traveled all over the world and been to South Africa many times, and #14 is easily the best place we’ve ever stayed. Last year we visited #14 on Klein Constantia, and Michael kindly showed us around. We were so impressed that we booked those eight nights while we were there. We’ll definitely return to this little bit of paradise.

The location is ideal for visiting Camps Bay, Cape Town and the vineyards. Rooms are lovely and have everything you might need, and we enjoyed delicious breakfasts outside. With its beautiful gardens and gorgeous mountain views, Michael has made this guest house a perfect place to relax. Looking forward to booking again next year.

Michael was an incredible host. His suggestions were always great, he handled restaurant bookings for us, even finding a table where places were already fully booked when I called, and helped with anything else we needed, including where to get COVID tests. We loved every minute and will definitely come back on our next trip. Michael‘s Guest House is beautifully situated in the Constantia Valley and makes a perfect base for exploring the vineyards and the cape. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, with a lovely garden and pool, great views of the backside of table mountain, and individual breakfasts prepared by the owner and staff.
