308 Juliette on the Waterfront Marina

Juliette 204 is a lovely open-plan apartment, and the position is superb. The place feels really classy, with a gym and pool looking out over the yacht basin.

The room and the rest of the place were fine, but the atmosphere was awful. I’d paid ten thousand rands to stay for less than a week, and on my last day I just wanted to take a few photos of the view and some selfies. I hadn’t photographed anyone else. A security guard followed me around while I did it, even though I was a paying guest. I’d been too busy during my trip to use the facilities or spend much time at the property before that day. I asked why she was following me. She said someone had reported me, so she needed to check. I get that it’s her job, but it would have been enough to ask for my room number. I gave it to her and explained I was a guest, yet she kept following me. I felt so uncomfortable that I left, though luckily it was my last day anyway. As an Asian tourist, I wondered whether someone had reported me because of racism, or whether the guard had her own suspicions. Either way, the experience wasn’t okay. What’s the point of checking IDs at the entrance if guests can still be treated like strangers? Keep in mind this could happen to you if you stay in the complex.

The location is gorgeous. The Oceans aquarium is 400m away, and the V&A Waterfront and mall are about 1km away.

Such a fantastic place, really excellent.
