The family rooms are roomy and have lovely views over the city and Table Mountain. The buffet breakfast was fantastic, and the service and customer care were great. It’s also right in the city centre, and I’d recommend it, especially for families travelling with kids. Entertainment could be better. There was no Netflix, and the Dstv selection was pretty basic. The fitness area is small too, with basic equipment and no treadmills.

We really liked the evening shuttle to the V&A Waterfront, it made getting there very convenient. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and breakfast had a great selection. Our room was spacious with a nice view of Table Mountain. The bathroom could use a few minor renovations, but that didn’t affect our stay. We had a very pleasant time at Southern Sun Cape Sun.

The shuttle to and from the waterfront runs every hour and is complimentary, though it’s also within walking distance. There’s a fairly large underground car park, listed at 65 zar per night, but no one seemed to check payment. You can come and go without cards or tickets. Breakfast was really good. The rooms were okay, but housekeeping was terrible: they forgot the towels twice, so we had none. The swimming pool is more like a bathtub than a pool. I’d call it a 3 star hotel.

I was there for an event, so I can’t comment on the rooms. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the place was clean with good attention to detail.
