We had a lovely weekend, but the way things ended left a bad feeling. Since flights were full on Friday, my husband and I split up with the kids: I flew early with the two younger ones, and he followed later with our older child. After landing, I waited around for a few hours before taking a taxi. We got there just before 1 p.m. I was fine waiting until the 2 p.m. check-in, especially since my tired four-year-old had missed his nap, but the owner questioned why we’d arrived early and talked about how guests normally came after 2. Eventually the room was ready and we checked in. After we left on Sunday, my husband got a call from the owner accusing us of vandalizing both rooms. In the kids’ room, the toilet roll holder had come off. My husband had also taken responsibility when a window handle fell off as he was closing it. I called to ask for photos of the alleged damage and was met with hostility. About an hour later, we got a photo of the kids’ room only. We confirmed we’d received it and asked for a quote so we could settle the matter, but two hours later the owner texted that we didn’t need to pay. They were already fixing it before the next guests arrived, using spare parts left from renovations. All that drama for nothing? Our kids have travelled all over the world and we’ve never been accused of anything like this before.
