This small mosque in Kalk Bay can hold about 100 worshippers. The roads nearby are narrow, so parking is limited, and visitors should take care not to block them. It has a separate women's section upstairs and holds Friday congregational prayers and Tarawih Salaah. During Ramadan, the pujji’s is of Malaysian descent. Known as the Masjid al Jamia, it was established around 1898 by Javanese Imam Jalalodin. Achmat Sity has served as resident Imam for roughly 30 years. The mosque has stood for more than 125 years and is one of South Africa's smallest.

This park is a peaceful, safe place for children, and I give it 10 out of 10 apart from one issue. I used to play here when I was five and lived in kalk bay. On the 25th of October, three families arrived with baskets, blankets and chairs and settled right by the roundabout and swings. They blocked other kids from playing, and their toddlers were close enough to the swings that the children had to stop whenever they passed. It isn't a camping site or a day park. I don't understand why they didn't go to the top of the hill instead of occupying the play area. That's just my view.

It's a pity that so few people attend Fajr salaah at the masjied. Magrieb is busier, though it still isn't really full. Alhamdulila, the upkeep is being maintained for the purpose the masjied serves, and its history is appreciated. But it has a purpose beyond its structure, and the community should lead by example. The idea it represents hasn't been realised. I hope the masjied and the community can sort out their drama and make it work for everyone.
