De Helling Self Catering

This time was a huge letdown. We stayed here a few years ago and it was really nice, but I couldn’t wait to leave this visit, and even left early. We got room 8, tucked away at the back. It’s far from the pool and other rooms, and reaching it means squeezing through a tiny hallway. Walls and buildings block the airflow, and the room only has two tiny windows. The room itself was in poor shape. The bathroom door was broken, didn’t shut properly, and was completely see-through, so there was no privacy. There was mold in the shower, and cigarette burns in the sheets, even though the sign outside said no smoking. The room smelled of cigarettes when we arrived too. It’s advertised as "self catering," but there’s no stove, and the fridge is tiny and so frozen over you can’t put anything in it. When we asked the owner why there wasn’t a tall fridge, they said there "isn't enough space," though space could easily be made. Some items listed as being in the kitchen cupboard were missing, and nobody cleaned the room or collected the garbage during our stay. The other rooms on the property look nice and well cared for, so maybe we were just unlucky with this one. Still, I feel the owners squeezed this room into the back to make extra money and put no effort into it. I wish I could hope it improves before a future visit, but I definitely won’t be coming back.
