Derwent House

We stayed at four hotels on our first trip to the Cape Town area, and Derwent House was our favourite. Luca and Tash deserve a special mention for their hospitality, and the whole staff were fabulous. They made an extra effort for our anniversary, and the late checkout was a real help. We loved the garden and pool, along with the quirky decor and art collected on the owners' extensive travels. The location is superb: safe to walk around, with good cafes and restaurants just minutes away if you want to stay nearby. We hope to come back!

The room had everything we needed, and the staff were incredibly helpful and nice. Breakfast was great, too. I'm celiac and needed gluten-free food, which they handled without any issue. I had an omelet and fruit. The quiet neighborhood is a great location, with lots of restaurants within walking distance. Staying at Derwent House was one of our best decisions for our Cape Town trip.

We had a wonderful honeymoon at Derwent House, one of the best places we stayed during our time in South Africa. The friendly staff helped with our plans and reservations and checked in with genuine interest. The room was just right, and we had everything we needed. We also enjoyed relaxing in the lobby, where there are coffee and tea facilities and a well-stocked fridge. Fresh homemade cakes and soup were available each afternoon, and breakfast was delicious, with plenty of healthy choices and tasty specialties. It was winter, so the weather kept us from using the pool. Towels are provided for guests when the weather allows. They'd thought of everything, and it was a pleasure to stay.

We stayed for four nights with our two adult children. This lovely guesthouse made us feel at home right away, and it's ideally placed, minutes from the Hoof quarter and the nicest restaurants. The staff were dedicated, friendly, always smiling, and helpful. The rooms were very comfortable, breakfast was a treat each morning, and the homemade cake was delicious. The Chef is very talented. The pool area never felt crowded, even in the busy season, and there were fresh towels, flavored water, watermelon, and sunscreen ready for guests. A couple of small things: the air conditioning was a bit noisy, and the windows didn't block out the morning light. Still, the beds and pillows were very comfortable, tea and coffee were available in the room, and the bathroom essentials were good quality. Special thanks to Gladys, Tash, Patience, and Luca, and to the owners for the thoughtful, well-chosen Christmas presents on our breakfast table on Christmas Day. We hope to return!
