Harbouredge Apartments

The balcony is really spacious and a great place to relax, the fridges are roomy, and the reception and security guards are welcoming and helpful. We stayed in Room 101, though the apartment could use a serious makeover. The living room table looks ancient and has unattractive glass marks. The shower heads need updating, and the kitchen is missing a lot of utensils. They accepted a booking for six adults but provided only four drinking glasses.

Getting back late was cheap by Uber, and the apartment is within walking distance of the V&A and the CBD. Still, the nearby streets felt a bit dangerous at night, with vagrants sleeping or hanging around there. Apartment 105 was a nightmare. It smelled of marijuana when we arrived, and the place felt dated. We booked through Bookings.com and asked both reception and the site for another unit, but were told everything was full. We saw few occupied rooms on our floor, and the parking area looked more empty than full. Housekeeping said the previous tenants, Nigerians, had smoked weed in the non-smoking apartment. They gave us a humidifier, which only seemed to help after running continuously for two days. There were also lots of cockroaches at night and in the mornings, so we couldn't leave food on the counters. The apartment was presentable, but needs an upgrade. Some lights didn't work, the shower head was broken and held together with thread tape, and the bathroom basin tap was loose. The air conditioning was good, tea and coffee were provided, towels were changed daily, and the apartment was cleaned. It's close to tourist spots. From the web photos, the other apartments seemed cleaner and better. I'd avoid 105, especially when booking through Bookings.com.

We had a two-bedroom unit on the third floor, and most of the photos and videos were taken from the balcony. The apartment was really spacious and the location was superb. Four stars because the pool and gym were under renovation, and the parking spaces were very narrow and tricky to get around.

The security desk was the friendliest and most helpful I've come across, and the place was very clean. The apartments are tastefully decorated and beautiful. For city living in the Mother City, this is a well-managed spot, conveniently located in the buzz of town and within walking distance of the main amenities.
