Hout Bay View

Alice & Thomas were fantastic hosts and shared so many useful local recommendations. This is a hidden gem in Hout Bay, with clean rooms, relaxed common spaces, simple quality breakfast, and stunning balcony views. Great value too.

I felt at home here, cozy and peaceful. The rooms are clean, the views are spectacular, and there’s lovely attention to detail. Fanny, the housekeeper, left a lasting impression on me. She’s such a special and kind person. I’m excited to try the Beauty Room experience. Thank you.

The room worked for a one-night stay: it was clean and modern, we slept well, and Fanny made a very good breakfast. Monty and Fanny were friendly and professional, too. The shared areas have lovely views over Hout Bay, though our room didn't. What brought the stay down was the lack of warmth, both in the room and from the owner. The room felt tiny and bare, more like somewhere to sleep and leave than a place made with care. The owner barely acknowledged us. He stayed in the office beside the breakfast room and didn't greet us when we came in or while we ate. As we left, we had to say hello first; he mumbled “hey” and went back to his business. It left us feeling that the guesthouse was just a way for him to make money, without much hospitality or enthusiasm. There was no secure parking behind a fence, no air conditioning, and little privacy. With the door open, anyone passing could see in. Closed, its frosted glass made the room feel like a prison cell, with no view outside. We took off two stars for those issues. Next time we're in Hout Bay, we'll return to our usual guesthouse if its two-night minimum works for us. Hout & About won't be on our list again.

We really enjoyed staying here. The pool was great for a dip on a hot day, or first thing in the morning, and breakfast each day meant we didn't have to stop at a cafe. There was a breakfast bar, coffee, juice and eggs. The rooms are on the small side, but comfortable enough for a good night's sleep between days out. It's a handy place to stay near Cape Town if you'd rather be away from the hustle and bustle. Getting to Camps Bay and Cape Town was easy, with mountain and sea views along the way. Thanks to Thomas and family for a wonderful stay. I'd definitely recommend it.
