Kumbaya House

One of the worst places we’ve stayed. The owner seemed strange from the start. She didn’t like that we arrived in two cabrios and began boasting about a car she supposedly has somewhere, pointing to its photo on the wall. She also tried to convince us she was Swedish by saying a few Swedish words with an accent that didn’t sound Swedish to me. I lived in Sweden for three years, and we found her efforts so funny that we laughed. I guess she didn’t like that, because she had us removed for our last night by calling the police and didn’t compensate us for that night. She came across as a very miserable person. I hope she gets better.

Rosemary was fantastic when we arrived. She welcomed us warmly, and we immediately felt at home. The owner was good and friendly, and the stay was relaxing and very comfortable, with an amazing view. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a break.

The owner’s treatment of us was racist, which was especially upsetting because she’s Black too. She seemed surprised that we were Black because the person who booked didn’t have what she considered typical African surnames. Then she accused our friend of taking the keys, saying, “imagine someone from JHB stealing keys from a CT guest house.” She called the police. When they arrived, we handed over the keys our friend had left with us because he had other commitments in JHB. Even so, he had to pay R3500 for keys he hadn’t taken. Rosemary also googled him, found out he was famous, and contacted his employers to claim he stole the keys. We wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The attitude and service were disgusting, to say the least.

The owner was friendly, the view was great, and the swimming pool was lovely. The rooms were comfortable too.
