This charming part of town feels trendy yet quaint, and the host was caring and communicated really well. The spacious ground-floor cottage has two bedrooms and a garden, with views of Table Mountain and Lionshead. You can walk to Company Gardens, Table Mountain, and Kloof Street in Tamboerskloof, which has great restaurants. There's also an independent cinema showing art films nearby, plus Gardens Shopping Centre, a lovely smaller mall with great boutiques and a well-stocked bookshop. I'm staying at Lionshead View Cottage again, at Virginia Street 19 Vredehoek in Cape Town.

The views from Lion’s view penthouse are stunning, with Lion’s head, Table Mountain, and the sunset all visible from the terrace. The place isn't new, but it's been maintained well. We rented it for a month and really enjoyed our stay. It had everything we needed to cook, along with a dishwasher and a modern washer-dryer. The gas fireplace kept us warm on cold days. Elize was a friendly, helpful host. She gave us detailed directions for the easiest Table Mountain hike and arranged an in-home massage the same day we asked, even though it was a holiday and there wasn't much time.

It works as a base for exploring Cape Town, and it does have a Camps Bay address, but buildings, balconies, and windows surround it and look in from every side. Even the heated tiles couldn't make this dated concrete-and-glass place feel welcoming. It's a grand holiday box, with cold, hard edges and no sense of comfort or homeliness.

The apartment has lovely views of Lionshead, Table Mountain, and the sea. We thought it was a new building when we booked, but it's around 25 years old. A lot needs fixing, including doors that don't close and leaky windows. Once those things are sorted, we'd definitely come back a second time! 👍
