Obz Hotel

Obs gives you a real feel for the area, and its character reflects South Africa's culture well. There are lots of great places to eat, plus interesting small shops and businesses. As anywhere in SA, keep your head on a swivel. I highly recommend this hotel for a taste of the neighborhood.

I enjoyed staying here. The staff were friendly, breakfast was good, and the balcony was great. Obz is right on the doorstep, with thrift and book shops, coffee places, all sorts of food, and plenty of downstairs spots if you want to experience the nightlife. My room was especially dark, though. I would've liked some natural light coming in.

Evenings can be loud here, with several late-night music and entertainment spots nearby and noise carrying into the early hours. I'm a light sleeper, so I'd be cautious, though it didn't bother me and faded into background noise. They gave me a quieter room away from it. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were really accommodating and keen to help. The hotel also stayed powered during load shedding. A few things needed attention: a tile on the bathroom step was broken, the window had no lock and wasn't secure, and the vent above the clothes rail rattled in the wind, like air blowing between thin plastic or paper. Still, it's very good value and I'd happily stay again.

A pleasant place to settle in for a night, as long as you keep your expectations realistic. It's more of a backpackers than the pictures suggest, but the staff were friendly and helpful. I appreciated being able to watch YouTube on the TV. You get what you pay for.
