The rooms were spacious and neat, and the price was great for what we got. The location is handy for trips into the city centre or the waterfront. I felt comfortable leaving my rental car parked on the street, with 24-hour reception and cameras there.

We ended up enjoying our stay, and the staff were accommodating when we asked to add an extra night to our original six-night booking over Christmas. The property is centrally located just off a main road running from the CBD to Sea Point, and Green Point Stadium is within walking distance. Our room was large, with a shower and toilet in the bathroom. There was also a small kitchenette with a microwave, little fridge, coffee pod machine, sink, and basic crockery and cutlery. For laundry, you can use a laundromat yourself or have them send it out, for a fee. It works well if you plan to eat out every night or are only in Cape Town for a few nights. But if you want to save a few pennies or cook, you could rent a fully equipped apartment in the area for the same price, with a kitchen and washing machine.

I’m frustrated by the reservation desk’s handling of a simple written confirmation. Sonia and I agreed over the phone to extend my 2020 voucher to 2021, but despite repeated requests, I still haven’t received confirmation in writing. If the extension isn’t possible, I’d like them to tell me and advise about a refund, so I don’t have to call or email every other day. We’d planned to use the voucher for a family gathering, and trying to rebook for our next gathering date was a struggle too. I dislike posting negative reviews, but the service has been shocking when all I needed was written confirmation of an agreement already made by phone. I’d read such amazing reviews and just want the service or goods we paid for. In June, I wrote that I couldn’t get through and that their email said they’d be back at work from 1 May. I’m updating this after receiving an acknowledgement on 7 July. I understand there may be a rush of people rebooking now that the country has moved to level 2. But I’d already been struggling to get a written confirmation or email reply before our April check-in date. Since the phone agreement, Sonia still hasn’t responded to my requests for written confirmation.

It’s a cool hotel with cool staff, especially Ricardo. He gave us great service and suggested a couple of places to visit, including Bob's Place in Long Street. I’m definitely going back to Oxford House next time I’m in Cape Town.

The area was quiet, with shops and restaurants close by, and the Waterfront just five minutes away. I really enjoyed my stay. The room was big, clean, and comfortable, and the location was good.
