Penguinden

The views were amazing, and the apartment was lovely in a beautiful part of Cape Town. It’s a bit of a walk into town, though the route is pleasant, so it wasn’t much of a problem for me. The hosts are a lovely couple who made sure we had what we needed, and even brought us a slice of birthday cake.

Penguinden ended up being the best memory of my Cape Town trip. We even spotted a couple of porcupines while driving up the road two nights in a row, so Simons town meant penguins, baboons and porcupines for us. The area felt totally safe, and parking on the premises was no problem. The place is close to attractions like Boulder’s beach and Cape Point, with beautiful beaches nearby. John was a perfect host, always happy to help, and gave us great advice on beaches and restaurants. The jacuzzi was too cool, and I had a really romantic time in it with my boyfriend. There was loads of space, including in the lounge, and an enormous kitchen with everything you need for cooking. We had a very comfortable bed and two en suite bathrooms just for us, though I still don’t understand why there were two. The views were outstanding, and the large balconies were great for meals and even cigarettes. They rightly asked me to keep the balcony door closed when smoking, since they’d had complaints about smoke getting inside before, even though smoking indoors is forbidden. I’d read lots of reviews calling Penguinden a home away from home. Having a home like that is my dream!

John was an amazing host. He shared recommendations and even printed our travel forms and brought them to us after we forgot there was a curfew, saving us from getting a ticket. The property is absolutely worth a stay, and I’ll recommend it to anyone I know who wants to visit Cape Town. I stayed at PenguinDen with my husband and stepdaughter. We couldn’t believe how beautiful the accommodation and view were. The rental was spacious, clean and modern, with everything we needed and more. Having laundry facilities right in our unit was a huge help.

We loved the peaceful location and the view over false bay, and pebble beach is an easy walk away. The home was beautiful and our host made us feel welcome. There was a lovely touch on the welcome letter when we arrived. We asked about staying a second night, but sadly it was fully booked. I’d recommend this as a great place to stay in the area.
