The Amalfi Boutique

I stayed for nearly three weeks and had a good experience at the Amalfi Hotel. The lift was important for me, and as someone who uses a walking aid, I also found the location easy to manage. The bathroom is small and might be difficult for wheelchair users, though I didn’t have trouble getting around it. The room had a terrace looking over a pleasant area, a comfortable bed, and basic furnishings that made it possible to save money on meals. Housekeeping was dependable, the staff were kind, prices were affordable, and restaurants were close by. For a budget stay, it had what I needed.

The location in Sea Point is very good, just above a lovely coffee place, and the reception made a nice first impression. The counter staff were friendly too. But the room I received wasn’t the one shown in the online photos. I’d booked based on those pictures and was put in a much worse room that was apparently in the same category. To me, that’s fraudulent advertising. When I raised it, the staff member checked with the reservation manager and agreed I shouldn’t move in and would get a refund. They later refused to refund me, charged the full cost of all three nights, and have stopped responding to my messages. Be very careful with this property.

At least the place was clean. The room photos gave a misleading impression, and the room itself was so basic it was nearly bare. We were met with a cold reception and attitude, despite what others say about the staff being friendly. Our air conditioning wasn’t working, and we were told maintenance had already left for the day. After my husband tried to help with it, we were moved to another room where the shower didn’t work properly. Maintenance seems to get the bare minimum, and lots of things are old, including the cheap, badly worn patio furniture. We had to complain twice about noise from the room next door after midnight. I honestly wouldn’t recommend it.

Those two rooftop gardens were a lovely surprise. We sat up there for our last drinks and watched the street below. The hotel is right in the middle of Sea Point, and we found the whole place spotlessly clean. Our room was simple but had plenty of space and fresh air, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed three nights.
