We made the Luxury Suite our base for a brilliant weekend and wished we could have stayed longer, but the hotel was fully booked. After another hotel double-booked us, my husband was frantically trying to find somewhere at the last minute. Once he spoke with the GM, we knew we’d found the right place for both adventure and downtime. The care from the staff mattered just as much as the property itself. Andreas went out of his way to make us comfortable and help us enjoy every spare moment. He was especially helpful to my husband, even driving him to Muizenberg to try surfing. The rest of the team were just as kind, with excellent daily housekeeping and some unexpectedly interesting conversations. They also helped with bookings and suggestions around Hout Bay, where vineyards and restaurants are only about a five-minute drive away. Their recommendations were worth trusting. We enjoyed long lunches at local restaurants, sundowners and cheese platters at a favourite vineyard, then quiet evenings in the hotel gardens under the big African moon. The suite itself was modern, clean and simply furnished, with a lovely veranda looking out at the mountains. There was a large TV, Dstv and Wifi, and the especially beautiful bathtub for two was just what we wanted after a long drive. A little piece of magic.

The view is breathtaking, and the hotel is well placed for getting around the area. On departure, they did help us with our luggage. The breakfast was only average on both mornings: cold meats, eggs, muesli and toast that was cold. The coffee stations weren’t in the rooms at first, so our in-laws had to call management on the first night to have them brought up. The next night there was no milk. Only one of our two rooms had been prepared to its full potential after our long trip from Southerland. At about R2000 per room per night, I think management should check that each room is up to standard, make sure breakfast is properly prepared, and change the menu for the next morning. A light outside at night would help too. The view should be lovely in summer.

The location is good, but for the rates the owner mentioned, I expected more attention to the basics. The bed had a sponge-like mattress instead of a proper one, and the linen wasn’t superior or ironed. There was no air conditioning, the kitchen needed a good clean, and one of our bathrooms wasn’t clean at all. Each room had a coffee machine, but there were no pods, milk or sugar. In our opinion, it was completely overpriced and lacking care.

Ute and Andreas were wonderful hosts, always happy to share local tips and tell us about events we might otherwise have missed. Their 'Local is lekker' approach gave the place a really cool feel, and we appreciated the sightseeing suggestions. Jacob was always ready to chat and bring over an amazing coffee. It’s a beautiful boutique hotel with gorgeous views and lovely people looking after you. We’ll definitely be back!

The people were nice, the rooms were nice and the view was really good. But at this price, some things should have been better. There wasn’t any coffee or glasses in our room, so we had to call at 10pm to get some. The room next to ours had everything, but our fridge had no milk. Breakfast wasn’t bad, though it was eggs only, with no bacon, and it would’ve been nice to have something different each morning.
