The people felt unfriendly, and I didn’t enjoy staying here at all. I hated coming back to the place. I never used the tea, coffee, sugar or milk because I didn’t feel entitled to them. The shower was tiny, the head was pathetic, with some holes blocked, and it couldn’t be adjusted. I had to rinse myself with a jug. There was noise outside my bedroom window and inside the main house. The main gate didn’t work for two days, which felt like a security risk. This definitely didn’t seem like the guest house that was advertised. I also saw two windows propped open with a small plank of wood, and water marks were showing through the ceiling, which needs painting.

At Pomegrante and Cecil, Susan, the stay fell well short of what I’d expected. My room was near the main entrance, where seven people lived, and items worth R1500 were stolen. That left me seriously questioning the security. The staff also came across as unfriendly. The listing pictures gave a misleading impression. Trees blocked the promised mountain view, and the property was beside a busy motorway, with constant traffic noise that made it hard to relax. The bedding was so uncomfortable it barely counted as bedding, and getting a good night’s sleep was difficult. The high ratings on Booking or Airbnb didn’t match the quality I experienced. There were too many disappointments with the advertising, comfort and security.

We really enjoyed our stay at this cosy little spot. It’s tucked away from the traffic and buzz, while still being central for getting to places around the Cape.
