Villa Helderberg

The breakfast choices were lovely each day, and Sonny and Maria answered all our questions enthusiastically, with plenty of recommendations for places to eat and visit. When the rain returned as we were leaving, they even helped us pack our cars. We couldn’t have asked for better hosts, and we’d be happy to stay in touch. We loved Susie, their playful, photogenic cat, too. My fiancé and I came to South Africa to marry in Stellenbosch, and Villa Helderburg was well placed for the airport and city as well as a short drive from our wedding venue. Sonny and Maria welcomed us warmly despite the pouring rain. I’d arranged champagne and local flowers as a surprise for my fiancé, and they chose perfectly. We also picked up a guest travelling from England, and our rooms had been upgraded as a kind gesture for our wedding. My brother, his wife, and their child joined us a few days later and enjoyed the family cottage. The six of us had everything we needed, and when the weather cleared, we could take in the views. We were sad to leave after such a lovely stay. We didn’t get to try the wood-fired hot tub, so that’s another reason to return. We’d recommend the accommodation for couples or groups, and we’re looking forward to coming back.

The setting makes it easy to explore: the guesthouse is near Somerset wine estates, within reach of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and about 25 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. We had a warm, comfortable stay at this family-run place and would gladly recommend it. Breakfast was freshly made and excellent. The hosts were very helpful with restaurant suggestions and bookings, which made things relaxed and easy.

We had such a lovely stay. The hosts were always friendly and happy to help, and the location was just right, with Cape Town and the wine farms not too far away. It’s a real gem.

Sonny and Marije were so friendly and gave us useful tips for restaurants, markets, and more. We requested breakfast by WhatsApp the night before, and it was delicious. The garden has plenty of spots to take a break: sun by the pool, shade under the trees near the fire pit, a drink from the honesty bar in the Lapa, or a seat outside your room at its own table and chairs. Our room was modern, clean, and comfortable, with a fantastic shower. We loved this quiet little oasis for switching off, and we’ll be back!
