Velmore Hotel & Spa

The spa was peaceful, with a lovely atmosphere, and the massage was so good. The manager and staff were friendly, and they’re happy to accommodate special requirements. Thanks to the team for a great visit. I’ll be back soon.

We had a wonderful experience at the spa on the property. It seemed to be run by someone else, and it was spotless inside with lovely service. The hotel, though, felt like a sad shadow of the gorgeous place it may once have been. Don’t be taken in by the four-star rating or the website photos. There were abandoned buildings and broken tables and chairs scattered around, weeds, and a strong sewage smell from the nearby stream. Inside, the decor was cheap and tacky. The tiled hallways and thin room doors let in every noise from outside. There was a TV, but no subscription, and the Wi-Fi came and went. From 5 a.m., a huge generator kept switching on and off right in front of the hotel, yet the hotel had no power in the morning. Signs warned against drinking tap water, and they gave just one 500 ml bottle per room. There’s no shop, and the restaurant only does breakfast. The hotel is far from everything, so we drove more than 20 km to find a shop for water and drinks. Litter in the passage outside our door was still there when we left the next morning. The front desk was rarely staffed. Such a shame.

The rooms were amazing, with good quality beds, and the staff were amazing too. It’s a very comfortable place and great for gatherings.

I went to a wedding here and found the setting very pleasant. Some of the car park and pathways were still being built, but that didn’t get in the way. The walk from the glass wedding venue to the bathroom was long and winding, and I wish it were closer. I can’t remember whether it was wheelchair accessible.
