The staff were very friendly and helpful, which is mostly why I’m giving this 3 stars. Realistically, I’d say 2. The food was very good, but lunch and dinner had the same menu every day, and that got repetitive after two days. Two nights here are enough. There’s a pool, but it isn’t heated, so it’s basically useless in winter, and there’s nothing else to do at the hotel. They also charge 7,500 for a one-way airport transfer, which is crazy when one night at the hotel costs about the same. The reserve is still considered one of the better ones in South Africa, and it can be a great experience, especially if you’ve never seen these animals before and want to learn about them. But if you want to see animals living truly free, Maasai Mara or Serengeti would be a better choice. The reserve doesn’t have hyenas, crocodiles, cheetahs or leopards, despite claims that it does. The lions seemed almost captive and are fed much like animals in a zoo. Our accommodation was clean, but the rooms are very small and hard to sleep in. The minibar, almost next to the bed, made incredibly loud noises, as did the air conditioning or heating in winter. We didn’t sleep well on a single night.

We had a brilliant time, and there was plenty to see and do over 2-3 days. The staff were excellent and full of knowledge, and nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent too, and the accommodation was very clean and comfortable. Fantastic, thank you, Inverdoorn. It was a pleasure.

We had the time of our lives here. The reserve is beautiful and well cared for, and the animals looked healthy and happy. We booked the family lodge, which was spacious, comfortable and just what we needed. With the full board package, we had three meals a day, two game drives a day, and a Karoo stargazing experience over three days and two nights. Praise greeted us with welcome drinks and a great orientation. She was so kind and friendly. Ashley, our ranger and tour guide for the drives, made the trip unforgettable. He knew so much about everything we saw and answered all our questions. Special thanks to him, Praise at reception, and the two girls from the cheetah educational program. The food was spot on, and the waiting staff were always super friendly and welcoming. We also paid extra for horseback riding in the Karoo and the cheetah educational program, and both were absolutely worth it. If you’re expecting a full-on Big 5 safari, keep in mind that leopards are the only Big 5 animals missing. They have most African animals, though, and it’s a very well looked-after reserve. I highly recommend it and really appreciate the effort they put into keeping the animals safe and happy.

The food was delicious, the safari rangers were excellent, and the horse riding activities are well worth recommending. Craig was our safari guide, and special, heartfelt thanks to him for working so professionally. Overall, the safari was great and everything was very good. A couple of things could be fixed easily. The room air conditioning worked poorly. It was 20°C outside at night, but even with the unit on its lowest setting, the room was warmer. Internet coverage was terrible, and the Wi-Fi didn’t reach the whole hotel area. Installing Starlink and adding more Wi-Fi repeaters could sort that out.

Ranger Craigh made the stay worthwhile. He went the extra mile for all of us, telling great stories and taking us very close to buffaloes, rhinos, giraffes and elephants. Ask for him specifically in advance. It’s a nice stop on the way. There’s an excellent pool, so check in early and enjoy it. Just make sure you arrive in time, because the first game drive is at 5 PM on arrival day. The camp itself was pitifully poor. The room needs serious maintenance and mosquito screens. A huge generator in the desert ran all night on our first night, making terrible noise, and we couldn’t sleep. The food is good, but lunch and dinner have exactly the same menu. Please add sandwiches for lunch and some light snacks. Breakfast fruit was gone within 10 minutes and wasn’t replenished. Towels on the floor mean “please change” anywhere in the world. On checkout morning, housekeeping picked up our wet, dirty towels, folded them again and put them on the shelf. I went into the bathroom for our luggage and found this really awkward.
