Riverwalk B And B

We hadn't planned to stay that day, but came across Riverwalk Bed & Breakfast and felt lucky to find it. It's a very nice guest house, and the host, Evelyn, was a kind, accommodating lady. Thanks, Evelyn!

The mountain views were fantastic, and breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Our room was spacious and spotless, with a nice touch in the rusks left for coffee. The staff were professional, and we had a wonderful stay. We’ll be back.

The room itself was good, but I would never return or recommend Riverwalk. The road is in terrible shape for a car without 4x4, and parking felt unsafe: the car is left beside thick bush with no fence or gate. I paid for dinner but wasn’t given a chance to go to the restaurant. Instead, a plate was left in my room without anyone asking what I wanted or telling me about it. I’m vegetarian, yet I was served cold meat throughout my stay. They didn’t bother to ask. The host then tried to make me leave before 10 so the room could be cleaned for other guests. I wouldn’t leave before the agreed time, and at one point the guest even came into my room without knocking to tell me to go work in their restaurant. I told her directly that this was unprofessional and showed how they see and treat black people. The service was horrible, and they showed no regard for people. I experienced small town racism at its best. They might as well just say “Whites Only.”

The drive to the accommodation was rough and unpaved, and our car got stuck on the rocks. Once there, though, we had a peaceful, relaxing stay. The room was lovely, with beautiful mountain views, and stayed warm through a very cold weekend. Breakfast was great and the hosts were superb. It’s close enough to walk anywhere in Clarens. Highly recommend riverealk.
