The Bay Lodge

Stella suggested several hikes and restaurants, and our conversations with her were wonderful and taught us a lot about life in this part of the world. By the end of the two days, saying goodbye felt like parting from an old friend. The owner couldn't be there because of a health issue, and Stella stepped in. Our room, number one, was cozy and clean, with a huge comfortable bed, a balcony and all the amenities we needed. We could see the ocean, and sometimes whales, right from the balcony. The guest house is in a quiet, safe location, and breakfast was superb. We had an amazing time here. That's what makes a small guest house such a lovely experience. Thanks again, Stella. You're an amazing woman, and I hope we can visit you again someday.

The Bay Lodge sits right by the sea, and we were lucky to get a room with a balcony and gorgeous views. I'd suggest trying to book that room, and definitely catch the sunset. The house is spacious and clean, and our room was beautifully decorated. The owner was such a delightful person to chat with. She talked through our plans for the day and shared recommendations, booked us a dinner table at one of the town's restaurants, and made us a really nice breakfast the next morning. What a lovely B&B. If you're around the Gaansbai area, I highly recommend booking a night here.

Villieria was a lovely host and shared tips for walking around town. Our room was cozy and super clean, and the sunset from our balcony was stunning. A++

The beds in the rooms we had originally booked were comfortable, and the views were beautiful. WiFi was weak, but available. Bring your own bottled water. The two women who made breakfast and cleaned the rooms were pleasant and extremely helpful. There was a booking mix-up, and we weren't charged for the nights in an alternative room. Given how unsettling it felt to be so close to the neighbours there, and the inconvenience of the assigned non en-suite bathroom, I'd actually have preferred to pay for the room we booked. Hot water was also an issue in two of the three rooms. Our host was kind and attentive with guests, but got flustered when we asked for fried eggs and could be heard speaking sharply to her employees. My family and I had a great time together, though the facility and hosting didn't contribute much to that.
