Duck and Trout Lodge

Duck and trout is a whole experience. It’s an old school kind of pub, with locals and visitors mixing, varied music and karaoke on Friday. It can get pretty busy later on. Don’t expect the bells and whistles of a fancy JHB pub, and the tables and menus can be sticky. The service is fantastic, cocktails are delicious, and the food should help with the hangover you’ll probably wake up with. Don’t be stupid and start a fight over a pretty girl, because you’ll be removed quickly. It’s always a good night out, but I wouldn’t recommend bringing kids after 6pm. You can’t come to Dullstroom and skip the Duck and trout.

Duck and Trout is a lively but relaxed place for getting together with friends or watching rugby, indoors or outside. The pub has a welcoming feel, with rustic and classic touches in the decor that give it character. There’s a good selection of beers, ciders and other drinks, and the food is hearty, delicious and well prepared. The pub lunches are especially good for a midday meal with friends. A great spot for socialising and sports.

The steak and egg with chips was full of flavour, and the beef schnitzel with vegetables and chips was delicious too. Those vegetables were especially fresh and well prepared. The Duck & Trout was busy, but the service stayed friendly and really good. We liked the relaxed, welcoming feel, and were glad to find it was the only restaurant open on New Year’s Day (1 January ). It made the meal feel extra special. We’d happily recommend it and come back.

We were waiting for friends coming in from JHB, then had breakfast the next morning. I'm still trying to work out what's in that shooter. It tasted really good 💯
