I stayed here for six months in 2022, and the owner and her son made it feel like home. Their warmth and kindness really restored my faith in people in South Africa. Every month, the floors stayed spotless, and my towels and linen were fresh. I never had a security worry or felt uncomfortable. It was peaceful and private, more like a sanctuary than a guest house. I can't recommend it enough.

We left the next day after just one night because the stay was so uncomfortable. I felt like we were inconveniencing the owner, who came across as cold and rude, with little kindness or courtesy. There were so many restrictions that we had to tiptoe around the property. Even when guests leave belongings behind, they apparently won't be called to collect them. We booked somewhere friendlier instead. This place might suit a boarding school, but I wouldn't recommend it as a guest house. 😕

The host lady was kind and welcoming, and we cleaned up after cooking, leaving everything tidy. But the man who let us in shouted at us just for chatting and laughing, and we'd never been told we'd be sharing the house with other people. Our group of six ended up eating outside because we couldn't eat quietly enough indoors. We also had to keep our voices down because a woman there had a baby, though the baby cried loudly in the middle of the night and woke us. I wouldn't suggest Amaciko for couples or friends wanting to hang out.

Amaciko Guesthouse has a lovely old-time feel in an attractive building, with clean rooms, a little outside park, parking and strong security. The rooms were comfortable and well kept, and the service was excellent. Staff were helpful on the phone and in person, and the man who showed us around made orientation easy. They were especially accommodating when we arrived very late, at 19:00, and showed us room options already prepared for our comfort, including requests related to our work. The booking process was quick and easy, which suits busy people. I've stayed in many places as a travelling professional, and this is among the best experiences I've had. The facilities and service feel world class, and the property is designed with everyone's needs in mind, including people with disabilities, though none were staying during our visit. The guesthouse has a long, evolving history that guests can take part in, and notable people have stayed there. Its social media presence doesn't do it justice, especially since people often first find a place online. We found it through the experience itself, and it's a real showcase of African excellence. It works for business trips, leisure stays, family holidays, or even a weekend away. There's a relaxed, almost secluded atmosphere, and we enjoyed walking around the welcoming area and having a lovely conversation. Shops are a bit far on foot, though KFC, Steers and Debonairs deliver within range. We ordered online, and used affordable, readily available UBER rides for other shops. Having your own transport would also make getting around easy. The guesthouse itself has what you need if you'd rather stay in. The staff went out of their way to make us comfortable, and the amenities were great. The room was clean and just right. We've recommended Amaciko to our family, friends and colleagues, and recommend it to you too.

Families and people in the creative arts would find this guesthouse handy. Musicians can rehearse here before heading off to perform at venues around the city.
