Bon Ami Guest House

The rooms were filthy, and even after we raised our concerns with the manager, nothing was done during our stay. I was afraid to walk around without shoes or touch anything in case it fell apart. If you want somewhere safe and comfortable, don't book here. When we arrived, some rooms had no toilet rolls. One bathroom was missing a shower panel, other showers had soap residue and mould, and each room had only one bath towel for two people, even after we asked the manager for more. We asked to move because both rooms were in an absolutely filthy state. The manager was rude, shouted at us and spoke as if we were children. We were eventually moved to the main house, which was worse than the outhouse rooms. After we'd moved, kevin asked whether we'd touched anything in the other rooms because he didn't want to have them cleaned again for the next guests the following day. It felt like we were being made to do his job, and the onsite mamager didn't seem to be very onsite. The carpets had food and dirt on them, the bedsheets looked as if they'd never been washed, and there were live cockaroaches in the toilet bowls. Bathroom tiles and blinds were broken, plug points didn't work, the bar fridges were dirty, and the rooms were infested with fish moths. There was a terrible stale, fishy smell. A wooden floorboard had a hole in it, and duct tape was holding the bathroom sink tap together. The kitchens were filthy, there was a slipping hazard by the pool, and the street was noisy. Bon Ami shouldn't treat basic cleanliness and guest comfort like a favour to paying guests. I'm surprised this guesthouse has so many good reviews. Whoever responds to bad reviews from guests clearly needs anger management classes. Instead of making excuses and blaming guests for poor hospitality, they should use the criticism to fix the guesthouse, or whatever excuse for a property they call a guesthouse.

A resting haven, warm and completely tranquil despite the buzz of Florida Road. Kevin, the manager, and his guest expertise make it good value for money. No regrets at all. It felt like home away from home, and I'll definitely slumber here again. Thanks, guys.

It's an affordable way to stay in Durban, and government officials also get discounted rates. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and kitchen facilities are available if you want to cater for yourself. The guesthouse is an old Victorian home that's been converted, with plenty of rooms in the main house and family units on the property. Restaurants and bars in Florida Road, Morningside, and the Windermere shopping center are all within walking distance. Definitely a worthwhile option for a visit to Durban.

I called this morning to ask if there was space this weekend, and the person who answered started screaming at me because it's a long weekend. He was extremely rude. That's completely unethical, and no way to speak to a woman, let alone someone who might become a regular client.
