City Lodge Hotel Durban

Breakfast was good, though the queue for a plate was frustrating. Even if you didn’t want eggs, you still had to wait your turn. Dinner got crowded too, so service took longer. The rooms could use better soundproofing. On the plus side, the hotel was quite clean, I liked the water and shoe-cleaning stations, and the food was very good, with big portions at reasonable prices. 😊

The hotel is handy for most city attractions, and we had a good stay overall. The rooms were tidy and spacious, and the staff, from reception to the cleaning team, were really courteous. Ice on tap was a nice touch and made up for not having mini fridges in the rooms. I didn’t mind the stairs either, they gave me a bit of a workout. Next time I’ll book breakfast as well, and I’d come back.

The atmosphere and facilities made the stay really enjoyable, and I hadn’t expected this level of service or such a lovely place so close to home. I’d happily return. It seems like a nice choice for a family holiday or a romantic break, especially over the festive season, if you’re looking for somewhere to relax and make memories.

Getting to the ICC on foot was easy and felt safe, and I want to thank Sihle for helping when I had a headache and wasn’t feeling well. I was exhausted after more than ten hours of travel, though, and being asked to pay the full amount at check-in was difficult. I’d arrived with dollars and then had to search for rands around 5pm at Musgrave, Pavilion and Gateway malls. It would have helped to check in and pay in full the next day, or to pay in dollars. Breakfast was another frustration. Sindi took a long time with tea. I told her someone had spilled a little milk on the floor, enough that someone might slip, and asked for tea as well. She asked for my room number and left. After waiting, I asked another waitress. A diner at the next table said he’d also asked Sindi for tea and hadn’t received it. When mine finally came, the milk was cold.
