Before booking Dei Gracia Guest House privately with the owner, we were shown photos of the guest house and understood that this was where we’d be staying. A few days before we arrived, we got a welcome message referring to the “holiday house,” which we thought was part of the same property. We stayed for about 28 days during a visit to Durban, using both the holiday house and the guest house. There are several buildings on the premises: the owner’s home at the front, the guest house behind it, and the holiday house farther back. During our stay, we reported several maintenance and cleanliness problems. The bathroom door came off before it was repaired, the shower drained poorly and had no curtain, and there was mould in some areas. We also saw pests, including cockroaches and droppings in drawers, and once found a cockroach inside the toaster. While some problems were being dealt with, we were moved temporarily to another unit on the property, but we couldn’t use cooking facilities there. Travellers may want to check which unit they’ll get and what facilities it has before confirming a booking.

The location was peaceful and quiet, and during my six weeks there in October - November I felt more at home than I have at many other places. I even thought I’d make it my regular accommodation when visiting. But an incident cost me over R4000, and property management gave me absolutely no help. The other party involved were their friends, and I felt there was no duty of care toward me as a guest. I’ll definitely stay away in future. The only downside I’d mentioned at first was having to go home.

I spent four nights at this lovely guesthouse in April 2019 and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The rooms include DSTV and reliable free Wi-Fi, and the whole place was clean and attractive. There’s a lovely garden, plus a pool and bar in the shared area, and plenty of secure parking. Reception, cleaning, and breakfast staff were all capable and friendly. I’d recommend it to anyone.

Very clean and tidy, with a welcoming reception and good facilities. The shower has a bit of a design issue that lets water run off, but it’s still great value for money. You get a lot for what you pay. Great place.

A lovely guesthouse and such good hosts made for a great start to my December holiday. The staff were friendly, and everything was very clean. I’ll be back for sure.
