Gooderson Tropicana Hotel

Breakfast had a great range, and the housekeeping team was the best I’ve come across in my travels. Check-in was easy, too. This was my second time staying on the 8th floor; I like being as high up as possible. I was disappointed not to get a sea view, though the side view wasn’t bad. We had a good time, and the hotel seems well suited to groups and draws a trendy crowd. Being so close to Point means crowds from there linger near the hotel. Parking wasn’t ideal either, since getting to the car meant passing through some unclean areas in the building next door.

The location made it easy to explore the city, and the beach view and comfortable room gave the hotel a relaxed, welcoming feel. Staff were ready to help with requests. Thabani gave us such a warm welcome and treated us beautifully by the lifts, which made the stay memorable. The restaurants staff were friendly and helpful too, so thanks to them as well. I stayed at Tropicana Hotel 2 months back and was impressed from the moment we arrived. I’d happily recommend it. 4/5 stars without a doubt.

Breakfast was exceptional, on par with a 5 star hotel, and the young staff were pleasant. The price is very affordable compared with competitors, though those places are all in better locations. The hotel carpet needs a serious revamp, as do the off white blinds. The bathroom still needs attention despite housekeeping and maintenance efforts, because there’s a distinct plumbing smell. On day 1, black particles came out when I turned on the tap inside the toilet, which raised health concerns. Toiletries were only provided for one person even though the room was booked for two adults and a child, and at 3 pm my room still hadn’t been cleaned. Overall 3/5.

The location, spacious room and service were just right, and I don’t regret staying here. Breakfast was good and the wifi was very good. I’d choose the place again, though I wish it had its own pool. A weekly meal featuring Zulu traditional dishes could be a nice bit of cultural exchange. The building seems to be getting old and some things need a revamp. The bathroom wasn’t very pleasant, but it was usable.
