ALTA was very welcoming, and our room was tidy and clean. The decor has a traditional farm feel rather than a modern look, though the pleasant setting made that fine. There’s secure parking behind a gate, and the spot is great for the High Street’s shops and restaurants. We also found plenty of tourist activities, including nearby wine farms. Franschoek is such a beautiful place in South Africa.

I only stayed one night, but really enjoyed it. The room was roomy and lovely, and just a short walk from the main street, with its shops, galleries and restaurants, as well as the monument. The owners were very kind. My morning photos don’t really show how nice the place is. I’d definitely recommend it.

At R1850 a night, I wasn’t expecting a five-star Lodge, but this still fell short. The coffee sachets were awful, and the walls were so thin I could hear someone vomiting in the next room. One bed plank was hard, the doors kept banging in the wind, and there were someone else’s belongings in the shower. There were no curtains either.

The garden setting is lovely, and Alta and Addy made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. Each afternoon they brought us fresh muffins, which were a real treat. Our bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was huge, with a lovely big shower. The place is cosy and just one street back from the many shops and restaurants on the main street. Highly recommend.
