My girlfriend booked this expensive place as a holiday surprise for me, but the experience was horrible. After we left, we were charged for extra cleaning and were willing to pay, since we understand it can sometimes be needed. The manager sent the cleaners’ bill, which we paid, then sent another charge for an additional R2000 on top of that. My girlfriend paid all those extra costs, but we still feel it was unacceptable. There was only cold water in the shower and only hot water at the basin. When I raised it, the manager Ronell told me I just didn’t know how to use a tap.

We had no water or electricity for our entire stay and couldn’t even flush the toilet. When we asked for help, the staff responded with sarcasm and seemed unwilling to assist. Ronell in particular was wildly unprofessional and could barely speak English. She’s definitely not suited to front of house. While confronting us, she called a British man who then threatened two professional women, both nearly 40 years old. The staff should be fired. Do not visit here!

The hosts arranged a wine tour guide for us, Jacob, who did an incredible job showing us around and explaining the history of each place we visited. The wine was delicious too. Our stay itself was absolutely lovely, in a romantic, unique, charming spot in Franschhoek. I’d highly recommend it.

Really disappointing. We’re four adults and a baby, and they turned us away because of the baby. The four adults would have used the beds, and our 10-month-old would have slept in a cot. Still, they said we couldn’t book the cottage that sleeps four because they counted the baby as a “fifth person.” How disgraceful, especially when they apparently describe themselves as “family friendly.”

We loved staying in the family-friendly cottage just outside Franschoek. There were lovely mountain views, a wood fireplace, and plenty of good amenities. We enjoyed walking to see the donkeys and chickens, and spending time at the gazebo by the dam. The staff were friendly too.
