After Cape Town and a few days on safari in Kruger, our three nights at Chapter House Boutique Hotel gave the holiday a calm, beautiful finish. I've stayed at the Ritz London, the Waldorf in New York and plenty of boutique hotels around the world, but this place felt special. The location is hard to beat: Franschhoek Main Street, its restaurants, the wine tram and Franschhoek Market are all within a few minutes' walk. The market is open Saturday and Sunday. The pool area was private, with comfortable loungers and chairs. Everything at the hotel added to the peaceful feel. Wesley met us when we arrived from our Hoedspruit flight, and our cases were taken up to the room. Room 7 had its own plunge pool, the toiletries were luxurious and the beds were extremely comfortable. Breakfast came freshly prepared, with a generous buffet of fresh starters and dishes cooked to order. We also enjoyed the afternoon cake with tea or coffee. The tea was perfect. The staff were professional and friendly, and made us feel very welcome. A trip to South Africa wouldn't feel complete now without another visit here.

We had booked and paid a month ahead, but at check-in we were told the hotel was full for the night. They arranged another place for us, which meant driving three kilometres farther from the city centre. It had a completely different atmosphere from the place we'd chosen for our Franschhoek stay. There was no advance notice or explanation from the hotel, and the experience was very disappointing.

The hotel is well placed for town and the tram and vineyard tours, and all the staff were friendly and very helpful. Nelson made a special effort to welcome us. We'd definitely stay again.

We stayed in a lovely, very clean pool room, and the location made it easy to walk all around Franschhoek, including to the Wine Tram terminal. Chapter House was a great base for our two nights. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and Eyona kindly arranged a shuttle to a nearby restaurant.
