I was encouraged by the 4.9 Google rating when my travel agent suggested this hotel. The staff were polite, the decor is gorgeous, and it’s only a five-minute walk to the town’s main street. But the hotel couldn’t meet the most important requirement I gave my agent: wheelchair-friendly accommodation and activities. This place really isn’t accessible. There are steps all over the way to the room, no ramps, and even the shower cubicle is raised by a step. We’d booked months ahead, and I reminded them at check-in that Mum needed a shower chair because she can’t stand for long. By 9pm there was still no chair and nobody had mentioned it. The phone in my room didn’t work, so I went to the front desk. Only then did I hear that I’d requested the chair too late. When I pointed out how long ago we’d booked, the staff member just nodded and said he’d tell the manager. He offered no workable alternative, which meant my 80-year-old mum couldn’t shower on the only night we were staying. The hot water bottle left on the bed also leaked, soaking the sheet and mattress. The same thing happened in another room booked by my family. The front desk came quickly to turn the mattresses over and replace the sheets, but it was another stain on the stay, despite what had been a warm, thoughtful gesture. We paid good money for this hotel, which isn’t budget accommodation. I left frustrated by the poor service and lack of initiative.

The gardens and pool made it easy to relax after a day out in the Cape Winelands, and our room was spacious, comfortable, and nicely decorated. La Fontaine Boutique Hotel is right in the heart of Franschhoek, close to shops, restaurants, and wine tasting, while still feeling peaceful. Breakfast was excellent, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I also really liked the decor. We had a fantastic stay and would happily come back to this charming hotel.

The staff really made our weekend away. Everyone was friendly and helpful, which added a lot to the stay. The hotel was cosy, comfortable, and beautifully decorated, with a great breakfast too. We were staying with friends and could easily walk into town for its lovely shops and places to eat.

The staff made us feel that nothing was too much trouble, and I wanted to thank them for it. La Fontaine is a delightful boutique hotel, with well-appointed rooms and a lovely courtyard where we had breakfast. It’s well placed for exploring Franschoek, with its restaurants, shops, and history. We’d thoroughly recommend staying here.

After five big days in Cape Town, Sandra and I arrived at La Fontaine late in the afternoon ready for some rest, and we felt looked after from the moment we got there. Kim's team paid such close attention to detail, and Kim went way beyond what we expected to help with every request. We left today feeling like part of the family. The place is great for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. We also had an in-house half-day wine tour with Karlof that we’ll remember for years. It was very funny. Many thanks to the whole team.
