Cabernet Cottage

If you don't mind the lack of a television and the shower not being up to scratch at all, you'll enjoy the quiet, privacy and beauty of the outdoors. The exterior surroundings are very beautiful and made this an ideal short getaway for me, no more than two days. The house is very old, and I was told it's a heritage property. Its outer walls are zinc, which was quite a surprise when we arrived. It had all the necessities.

This intriguing cottage is part of Heritage of Franschhoek, and it comes fully equipped with an old Dover oven that works if you want to bake pizza. It should be lovely next to the little stream in summer. Unfortunately, the hot shower was too hot, and with the gas geyser and low pressure, we couldn't get the temperature down to something acceptable for showering.

Rustic, cozy and nice, with everything you need for a relaxing getaway. It can get cold on a rainy day or night, but there's a lovely little dover (wood) stove and a warm feather down duvet to keep you warm. The place is tranquil, just a few km away from Cape town hustle, and there's a beautiful stream with crickets and frogs making lovely noises as you fall asleep. Love it, and I'll definitely recommend it and come back.

The peaceful setting is what stayed with us most. We felt relaxed and reconnected in a way we hadn't in ages. The cottage and farm are beautiful, with a lovely atmosphere, and the outside braai was a favourite. We had morning coffee on the separate patio, and everything was well equipped, even during load shedding. Communication from the owner was excellent from the beginning. Such a special place.
