Appleby's Guest House

When I visited my friend, who had booked this place on my recommendation, I wasn’t allowed into his room. I had to sit outside, even though we wanted to share the food and drinks we’d prepared. Parking is very limited too. We returned around 9pm, and the owner said there were no visitors allowed after 9. He also told us he wasn’t Afrikaner or Boer, but English. I found that unprofessional. I’ll never book here or recommend it to anyone.

The location worked well for me, with shops and restaurants within walking distance and the family I was visiting just around the corner. There’s also a lovely swimming pool. The rooms are well equipped, and the bed linen is exquisite. Service was second to none. Shingie makes a delicious breakfast, and Tina, Peter and Shingie were all excellent, friendly hosts who went the extra mile to make it feel like home.

Tina and Peter were absolute gems as hosts, helpful, kind and funny. The rooms and bathroom were cleaned every day, the linen was divine and clean, and there were fresh towels daily.

The host is very nice, and the bathroom seems to have been upgraded recently in a nice way. But the mirror cabinet is too big for the basin, so brushing your teeth or washing your face is awkward. The rooms are very primitive and cold, with no heater and no TV channels. You’re left with only YouTube to keep you busy.
