Avocet Guest House

The stay was okay overall. Our room was spacious, with air conditioning and decent, fast Wi-Fi, and the hostess and staff were very friendly. Still, it was confusing and inconvenient that there were no signs showing where reception was. We got an unfriendly welcome after walking into the owners’ house instead of the guest house. Breakfast was delivered to the room, but it seemed more like boxed, store-bought food than something homemade. You could choose from the breakfast menu, but when we asked about white or brown toast, they just said “toast.” The hostess also asked us not to bathe or shower for too long almost as soon as we arrived.

The setting and hospitality made this place feel heavenly. It’s near the beach, with a garage about a five-minute walk away and a small complex a few streets over where you can get Pick n Pay. They offer breakfast in bed and dinner too. Believe me, you won’t regret staying here.

The room was sparkling clean, and the hostess welcomed each of us, introduced herself and asked our names. I’d mentioned my food allergies in advance, and she went out of her way to make breakfast lactose and gluten free, even providing cheese. I haven’t had that kind of consideration at many other B&Bs. Five stars from me.

After a long day, a hot shower and crisp, comfortable bedding were just what I needed. The host and staff were amazing and so friendly. The garden was beautifully maintained, and breakfast was wonderful.
