This has become my regular stop when I'm passing through. I also love the dam on the N9 as you come down the mountain pass towards Graaff-Reinet. In town, the historic Dutch Reformed Church, Graaff-Reinet is stunning, and Graaff-Reinet itself is one of South Africa's oldest towns, named after its founder and his wife. There's the Valley of Desolation for its cliffs and wide views, and the Owl House and nearby sights in Nieu-Bethesda. A nice place to stay overnight.

The owner went out of her way for us. When the air conditioner stopped working, they got it fixed before we left for our New Year's party. The property is beautiful and the service was outstanding. Our stay was excellent, despite the negative reviews. Highly recommended!

The staff were friendly and helpful, and everything was clean, but the layouts make these rooms awkward for two couples. In Kudu, you walk through the main bedroom to enter, while the kitchen is in the second bedroom, so it seems better suited to a family with small children who don't need much privacy. The bathroom towel rail was broken and left under the basin, and the shower floor has an open drain hole. Vlakvark smelled very damp, and its open bathroom also isn't ideal for two single people. It could work for a couple.

The bed was much too hard, and the white duvet had stains. The room floor and shower head weren't clean either. The bathroom tap was loose, the door needed maintenance, and the WiFi signal was difficult to use.
