My husband, our two young children and I were travelling from KZN back to Cape Town and had booked Boer & Brit for one night. We made the booking in early April, but booking.com emailed us just a day and a half before the stay to say Boer & Brit had overbooked and needed to cancel. That left us scrambling for another place in a small town with less than two days to go. We're also out of pocket while waiting for a refund, which we've been told could take up to 14 days. I wouldn't recommend staying here with such unreliable booking arrangements. It caused completely unnecessary stress.

The house has a cozy historic feel, and the rates are reasonable for an overnight stop. It could use a bit of care, though. The aircon wasn't working, the plumbing works in a way that's frustrating and opposite to what you'd expect, and it could be cleaner.

It's an old place, but absolutely lovely. The off-street parking is safe, and it's clean with room to sleep four. The price was great, and it felt safe walking to restaurants for supper and breakfast.

Takeaway places are nearby, so this works well as a one-night stop on a longer trip. It’s a cosy, old, minimalist house on a secure road. DSTV choices are limited and there’s no WiFi.

The owners were so helpful and honest, almost to a fault. A really comfortable, cosy place to stay.
