Loerie Apartment is tucked away in a secluded part of the property, with lovely forest views and a short drive from the N2. Plettenberg Bay is only 15 minutes away. The setting is beautiful and full of nature, with so many birds in the forest. The outdoor braai sits beside a jasmine forest that looked breathtaking and smelled heavenly. Cindy, the friendly resident cat, came to greet us too. It’s great value for money and a lovely escape from the city bustle. Both bedrooms have their own shower and toilet. The downstairs bed was a little hard, but the upstairs beds were comfortable, and there were extra blankets. The gas stove and oven are handy if rain makes braaiing difficult. There’s no indoor fireplace, but the gas heater was welcome when it started raining the night we arrived. There was an Eskom power outage on our first night, so some plugs and appliances didn’t work, though a backup inverter kept the essentials running. There was no hot water the next morning, understandably. The manager kept in touch and updated us throughout, which was nice.

We travel often, and Masescha has been our favourite place to stay. Cheri welcomed us so warmly that it felt like home right from the start. She was friendly and caring, and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks to her, our visit went beyond what we expected. We booked our next stay as soon as we checked out and can’t wait to return.

We stayed one night at Masescha Country Estate and really enjoyed the peace and forest birdlife. Our unit was closest to Reception, well equipped, and had the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. Breakfast was a fantastic continental spread, with a good serving of cut fruit, cereals, yogurt, ham and cheese. I’d have no hesitation recommending an overnight stay at Masescha.

I loved it here. The host is extremely caring, the facility is clean, and everything is up to the mark. Bird Song house is highly recommendable, with five rooms and all the facilities. It’s in the middle of a jungle, which is an adventure, so I’d suggest bringing insect repellent. There’s a walking track alongside the river, a perfect escape from a busy life. Remember to bring your food, since it’s self-catering.
