Graceland Conference & Lifestyle Centre

The place felt like several unrelated buildings had been renovated badly and joined together. It's okay if you need somewhere for one night, and the room was spacious, clean, and tidy, but oddly laid out. We got back from a nearby wedding at 2 a.m. and had to hoot and buzz at the gate to get in, even though we'd picked up the keys earlier. I was desperate for a shower, but the other door in our room opened onto an empty kitchen and a corridor with more closed doors and a tiny shower room. I'm thin, yet had to squeeze around the door to shut it. The shower nozzles were badly blocked, spraying everywhere but at me, and the plastic showerhead started bulging under the pressure. I gave up before it could burst and hurt me. After squeezing back out, we found another bathroom behind a door I'd assumed belonged to a different suite, so we did manage to shower eventually. I was exhausted by then and slept in the huge, quite comfortable bed. Breakfast was basic, eggs, beans, bacon, hash browns, toast, and cereal. It wasn't awful, just not especially appealing. I wouldn't stay again.

The Christmas meal was a real letdown. The menu they sent out wasn't what we got: we paid for an extravagant meal and were served Sunday dishes, the sort I wouldn't even make at home. Then the staff joined us for lunch, and dessert was ice cream. Breakfast was horrible every day, like we were getting leftovers. The staff weren't friendly, helpful, or equipped to answer our questions. They started avoiding us, and the TV in our room didn't work. Housekeeping came around 3 p.m. Staff seemed complacent and even asked guests for things. Such a disappointing place. I wouldn't recommend it.

The breakfast was well prepared, but they were short staffed and we waited a long time to get what we wanted. One person can't prepare food, clean rooms, and do laundry all at once. She needs to hire more staff. The rooms weren't what the pictures promised. Ours had no microwave, and when we asked to warm our food in the kitchen, the staff member who helped us was shouted at. The bed hadn't been made properly and had no sheets. Three rooms had no hot water for bathing, and ours had spiders and lizards. Security suggested we write down our problems for the Owner to see, but she scratched out everything we'd written when she arrived. I used a red pen; she crossed it out in black. The Owner is rude, and when she's away, she leaves her child to spy on her behalf. I wouldn't want people to go there.

Such a great place for family and friends, and it works well for weddings and team building. I love it. Special thanks to Mr Modikwane. 👍
