The Zarafa

Zarafa is a great base for Kruger, just 10-15 minutes from Phabeni Gate. The lodge arranged our first safari in Kruger National Park, and it was excellent and very reasonably priced, especially with only two of us. We were welcomed warmly by Karabo, who also took care of us at dinner. Dilesh looked after us wonderfully on our second day, and Chris handled checkout with real kindness and professionalism. Barry, the lodge manager, was a highlight too. He makes a point of connecting with guests, keeps things running smoothly, and stays available afterward. His humour, people skills, and genuinely human approach made our stay feel more meaningful. The lodge is surrounded by lush greenery in a secure area, with wildlife visible on the road and around the property. Our accommodation was even more spacious and beautiful than the photos, immaculately clean, and fully equipped. Housekeeping deserves credit for keeping everything to such a high standard. Breakfast and dinner were both standouts. Every meal was different, carefully prepared, and delicious, with creative cooking and quality ingredients. We’d happily return and recommend Zarafa.

A peaceful, welcoming setting for a holiday. The owner is a lovely host and makes a point of meeting each guest face to face. You notice the care put into comfort and the little details throughout your stay, and dinner was phenomenal.

The rooms, privacy, and food were all 💯, and big hands up to the chef. Our meals arrived on time with cheerful Karabo bringing them. Karabo welcomed us at reception with a warm smile, and I’ve been on lots of holidays without getting service this wonderful from a staff member. Our stay at zarafa was awesome. I wished we could have stayed longer, but we’ll surely come back 👏

Peter and Barrie were such wonderful hosts, and their whole team made our few nights genuinely memorable by going beyond what we expected. The chef and food deserve extra stars, as does the customer interjection and everyone’s general geniality. I’d recommend it 10/10 times.
