Fleur Bleue & the Timber Frame

A beautiful, very clean home and a great place to stay. The host was super. Definitely worth visiting, and we'd happily come again.

Views of the mountain and quiet countryside, with a peaceful garden around the house, made it easy to rest and recharge. Inside, the unique timber-framed home is beautifully furnished and meticulously cared for, with everything needed and then some. No comfort has been overlooked, and you really do feel pampered. Rentia is the most caring, compassionate host we’ve met, in South Africa or elsewhere. We’ll always remember our stay at Fleur Bleue. It’s a special treat and excellent value.

The garden was a lovely part of the stay, from the Jacaranda just starting to bloom and the riot of roses to the Jasmine arch by the back door, whose scent was wonderful. We also spotted a friendly Hoopoe in the driveway. Our host, Rencia, was warm, helpful and knowledgeable about birds and plants, and handled our different allergies expertly. We booked the two-person room in mid-November. It was sumptuous and comfortable, and I slept soundly, which is unusual for me. The shower was large and luxurious. Breakfast was amazing: fruit and yoghurt, then rarebit or French toast with mushrooms, tomato, bacon and avocado. It was beautifully cooked, decorated with flowers and mint from the garden, and both delicious and filling.

I was there in winter, but I’m already looking forward to staying again when it gets warmer. The room was beautiful and clean, and Rentia was a perfect host. This gem in Heidelberg must be lovely in summer, especially with the garden. Thanks so much, I’ll still be back for your signature breakfast.
