The only kind person at reception was Theodora. She remembered every guest by name and had the manners of someone working at a five-star place. I wish they’d make her the manager. The rest of the stay was terrible. For safe parking, guests have to pay another R60 per night. Otherwise you park outside, where they warn you about smash-and-grab. Jacqueline was rude and spoke negatively about lots of guests. She called people who wanted to stay in a bit “sit-en-plak” customers and didn’t like guests being around during the day. She also complained, “just not them again”, about the Bazz bus. She seemed more concerned with her own plans and having her own people over. They drank in the lounge, which we’d been told was for staff only, until nearly midnight, and her guests were even in the office. They took over the kitchen and acted as if it were their own holiday home.

The owner and her son gave helpful advice on how to get to the Cliff walk, and they were both so friendly. It’s a great location, the buildings are clean and well kept, and the rooms are comfortable. The shared spaces are lovely, the kitchen has everything you need, and I enjoyed a hot shower. Great value for money, and I’ll definitely be back.

I felt so lucky to have stayed at Backpacker's for my first time in Hermanus. The place was clean and comfortable, and the room was excellent. The kitchen had everything I needed, too. The staff were pleasant and accommodating, especially the reception team, who went out of their way to make sure guests were comfortable and things were running smoothly. I was sad to leave and would come back at a moment’s notice. Chloe, the dog, made the house feel like a home from home. Thanks so much for a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

The advice from Haley and Jacqueline was incredibly thorough. When you arrive, they walk you through what to eat, see, and do around town, along with directions for walking or driving and where to park. They were both so lovely. Hermanus backpackers is one of my favorite hostels in a long time. It’s centrally placed for getting around, but just tucked away enough to stay quiet at night. There’s plenty of parking, including gated parking at the back. The dorm room was really nice, and as a tall person I fit the bed well. It was comfortable and a good temperature. The common room, kitchen, and backyard are great too. If you’re lucky, Chloe, the resident hostel dog, will be around. She’s an absolute sweetheart. I’d definitely come back.

Jacqueline made me feel very welcome, gave advice, and helped me book activities. The host was truly amazing, and I met wonderful people in Hermanus. I had a lovely stay in a private room that was clean and quiet. I was sad to leave.
