The shared dinners were a highlight every evening. We ate amazing food, swapped stories and laughs with the other guests, and learned a lot from each other and the Rangers. Hearing distant lion calls while we had dinner made us feel part of the wilderness. The lodge is small, intimate, and personal, and Makumu will always be in our hearts. We were there for our 10-year anniversary, and the two daily game drives with knowledgeable Rangers Josh and Reinhard went beyond what we expected. We left with full hearts and plenty of new friends. From arrival, the authentic lodge and breathtaking setting made an impression, and every staff member made us feel at home. There's only one place we'll want to visit in The Kruger: Makumu. Lynx, Josh, Reinhard, and Stefan, we'll never forget this trip. Thank you!

We had morning and afternoon game drives, and Reinhard made them unforgettable. He went above and beyond while still respecting the animals. The team treated us like family, and each day brought a surprise about where dinner would be. It was wonderful and romantic, and we'd love to come back. The service was immaculate.

We first visited Makumu in 2022, then returned last September 2025 and found the same welcoming vibe. It feels like home in the middle of the Klaserie. The rooms are spacious and luxurious, the staff are amazing, and the game drives are out of this world. Want to see the Big 5? Makumu is the place! We love it and it will always mean a lot to us. Makumu was our first safari and our first visit to South Africa. The welcome was warm, and the people, service, and food couldn't have been better. The game drives were exciting, and both the Tracker and Guide did their very best. If you want time to unwind and step into a completely different world, and you enjoy being treated like family at a hotel, choose Makumu. If we go again, we'll go back there.

The guides spotted plenty of animals with real skill. The lodge sits on a hill overlooking the reserve, and the location feels magical. You get the amenities of a 5 star resort but still feel comfortable, as though you're visiting a dear friend's home. One of my best experiences ever, and I'd absolutely return.
