What a lovely place, we had the most wonderful weekend at The Old Mushroom Farm in Howick. The accommodation was fantastic, and both breakfast and the pizzas were delicious. Thank you, we’ll be back!

I’d heard about The Old Mushroom Farm from lots of people, and my first stay was amazing. As a solo traveler, I really appreciated being charged per person rather than for the whole room or cottage. It makes a big difference when you’re on your own. The farm is beautiful and just off a road that’s central to Howick and the surrounding attractions. The staff were kind, efficient and helpful. Highly recommended.

Our stay at The Old Mushroom Farm over the Midmar 2026 weekend wasn’t good. It was extremely hot, so I messaged the WhatsApp number listed on the unit’s fridge to ask if they could bring another fan. I never got a real reply, just an automated message saying they’d get back to me when they returned to their desk. I guess they still haven’t made it back. The shower was barely getting any water when we turned on the tap, and its showerhead was broken, so we couldn’t even adjust the spray. I filmed it and sent the video to the same WhatsApp number. All I got back was, “Thanks for letting us know.” It would’ve been good if someone had come to check and fix it, or at least communicated properly. I wouldn’t recommend the Mushroom Farm.

We loved our weekend getaway. The boutique apartment was clean and neat, with a quirky feel and a little bay window. It was fun browsing the little stores, and we enjoyed the delicious breakfast with the bed and breakfast option, plus pizza for lunch. I’ll definitely recommend it to family and friends.

The walks nearby are gorgeous, just a short stroll from the property. There’s plenty to enjoy on-site too, with great coffee and treats at Home Slice and really good pizza and tapas from Bite Society. The Karkloof setting is breathtaking. Definitely a gem!
