The cottage feels like a little treehouse, with gorgeous views across the Karkloof Valley. It’s peaceful and comfortable, though a bit unusual: the full bathroom is outside the cottage, reached either through the main bedroom or by going around the verandah. With two bedrooms, it can sleep more, but it feels especially suited to a couple’s getaway.

Old Pine cabin has lovely views and a genuine rustic feel. We had everything we needed, including a braai and a cozy heater. It’s also handy for exploring Howick and the Karkloof trails.

The beds were warm and comfy, and the fireplaces kept the rustic cottages snug. Bring your own pillows if you’re particular, since the ones there are plentiful but very thick. We loved being able to bring our dogs, and the kids had room to roam and play. A beautiful, tucked-away setting in the Karkloof Reserve, and a welcome break from city life.

A peaceful, quirky little paradise right beside the natural Karkloof forest. Get the wood heater going and listen for the buff spotted flufftail’s low, mournful foghorn call.

We loved how private and cozy it felt tucked into the forest, and the decor is epic. Pita, our host, was really cool, too. For the valley, this is hands-down the best value stay we’ve found.
