Ledges Retreat

If you’re looking for somewhere quiet, this is the place. It is clean, though keeping mosquitoes, flies, and other bugs at bay matters for comfort too. Safety is important in South Africa, of course.

The riverside cottage was spotless and beautifully decorated, and it turned out to be great value. Waking up to the misty Drakensberg and the soothing river was pure magic. We had a wonderful time at The Ledges Retreat, thanks to Jessica, Nokwe at reception, and George the resident dog. We’ll be back soon.

For a peaceful rest, this little place feels like homely “Heaven on Earth.” The scenery is lovely, the accommodation is clean, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Wifi is available, and George, the little dog, bounds over so happily to see you and will walk along with you for no particular reason. The Pizzas from the nearby Tower of Pizza are a bonus. Thanks to Jessica and all the staff, we’d happily recommend it.

The mountain panorama is the real draw here, with a river at the bottom of the property. We enjoyed the view from the veranda by the fire while grilling a steak, and there are great hikes and cycling nearby if that’s your thing. We stayed in a six-sleeper self-catering house. The rooms were impeccably clean and had a lovely farmhouse feel. The hosts were as friendly as you’d expect Drakensbergers to be. I highly recommend the Ledges Retreat for a homely mountain break.
